Obituary

Lois "Bea" Pennington passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023 in Oklahoma City. She shared 87 years of love and faith with all who knew her.

Bea was born to Carl and Mildred Noyes in Bridgeport, OK on August 8, 1936. She grew up on the family farm in Geary, OK where she attended high school through her Junior year. She left school to marry Charles Pennington on August 9, 1953 and moved to Bethany soon after. They had two children, Donna and Michael.

Bea worked as a cafeteria manager in the Putnam City School system. After retiring, she provided companion and care giving services to several individuals in her church and community.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Like most grandmothers, her granddaughter Dana and great-grandson Austin were her pride and joy. She was an integral part of their lives, providing before and after school care for both of them throughout their childhood. She diligently prayed and cared for family and extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who fondly called her Mama Bea, Aunt Bea or Granny Bea.

Bea was a member of Tulakes Baptist Church. She attended church services each week, and after becoming home bound, continued to faithfully support the church with her prayers and offerings. She was a generous contributor to multiple charities including St. Jude's, Boys Town, Grace and City Mission Centers and the Dale Graham Veterans Foundation.

Her life-long passion was sharing the love of Jesus with children. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. When a new family moved into the neighborhood, her first question was "Where do you go to church?" or "May I take your kids to church with me?" On Sundays and Wednesday evenings, her car was typically overflowing with kids piled on the laps of other kids that she drove to and from church.

Bea was a talented crafter and in her last few years, spent her days tirelessly crocheting plastic sleeping mats, hats and scarves for the homeless and baby blankets for the Hope Pregnancy Center. She also made hats, headbands and purses for the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. She received great joy from knowing that the gifts she created with love in her little home in Bethany, OK would find their way to children across the world.

Bea is survived by her daughter, Donna (Bruce) Daves; granddaughter, Dana Reeves; great-grandson, Austin (Dakota) Reeves; brother, Harold Noyes; sister-in-law, Cora Pennington and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and son, Michael.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 21, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service Chapel in Bethany, officiated by the Reverend Ben Van Vactor, PhD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children at 3800 N May Avenue, OKC, OK 73112 or online at www.obhc.org.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff of the Integris ICU 601 and the Integris Hospice House for the expertise, comfort and compassionate care they provided in Bea's final days, as well as the family and friends who visited.
