Lindell Wayne Gay was born October 18, 1940 in Bristow, OK. He was the third son of Hughie Thomas Gay, Sr. and Lennie Gay. His school years were spent in Bristow. After graduating high school, Lindell served his country for 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He was a draftsman on an aircraft carrier, spending most of his time in Japan and San Diego, CA. He always said he had been around the world twice and had seen most everything he wanted to see.
In 1963, Lindell moved to Oklahoma City to work for the OKC Police Department. He served the city for 20 years in various roles and retired as a Lieutenant and Court Liaison in 1983. He had the highest regard for the law and always knew he would be held to a higher account. Lindell came from a family of law enforcement. His dad was a retired Chief of Police and deputy Sheriff. Both of his brothers were retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Not content to stay home, Lindell went back to work as a deputy serving papers at the OK County Sheriffs office. He was always amazed at the difference between civil and criminal law. He retired again as Major from the Sheriffs office in 1992, this time for good!
In his spare time, Lindell was a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. He rode 3-wheelers with the Shriners in parades. He loved golfing and some travel, but mostly just being at home and watching the grass grow. He loved a good laugh and his little dog, Tigger.
Lindell is survived by his wife, Becky Gay of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Baty of Edmond, OK; grandsons, Tommy and wife Abigail Baty of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Todd Baty of Jacksonville, FL; son, Lindell W. Gay, Jr. and wife Anna; and granddaughter, Tiffani, all of Apopka, FL.
