Obituary

Lester Lee Mohling lived from August 25, 1924 to February 17, 2011. The eldest of five children born to Rosina and Charlie Mohling in Leedey, Oklahoma, Lester lived in Oklahoma his entire life except during his service to his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and while traveling the country on a seismograph crew in the early 1950s. He was a master auto mechanic and ran his own service stations in Oklahoma City for decades until his retirement. He loved Lake Tenkiller and Lake Eufaula and could be found fishing and boating there almost every weekend in the summers of his prime. Later he kept a garden and orchard, sharing his bounty with family and neighbors. He was a generous father, a doting grandfather, a beaming great-grandfather, and a loyal brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, and his sister, Darlene Elrod. He is survived by his children, Marilyn Backus and Michael Mohling; his grandchildren and their spouses, Chad and Amy Backus, Taylor and Tiffany Backus, Blake Mohling, and Amanda and Ryan Flowers; his great-grandchildren, Charis and Chad Flowers, Brooks Backus, and Bennett Backus; his brother, Charlie Mohling and wife Mildred; his sisters, Wilhelmina Boydstun, Stella Benear and husband Roy, and Verna Marie Simmons and husband Roy; his good friend Jack Easterly; and dozens of his nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Mercer-Adams Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK on Wednesday, February 23 at 9 a.m., followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. at New Hermon Cemetery, 2 miles south and 1 mile east of Leedey, Oklahoma.
