Obituary

Eulogy of Leslie LuAnn "Sassy" (Trent) Munhollon

Leslie was born on November 21, 1957, in Lancaster, Wisconsin. She was the fourth child of Charles and Betty Trent. Leslie became interested in teaching and working with students one on one to develop their skills and succeed in school. Her desire to teach began at the age of 6. She also had a strong interest in music. She played French horn in band and sang alto with the choir at NW Classen High School. She has report cards that show high marks but all of the reports have comments that she talked too much!

Leslie graduated high school in 1975 as an honor student. She pursued an education major in college and was determined to pursue her goal to teach. She was a leader at UCO in the Future Student Teacher Association and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi in 1978. Kappa Delta Pi is an education honor society that required a 3.0 for membership. Leslie also supported herself financially with a job restocking vending machines on the UCO campus.

After receiving her Bachelor's degree, Leslie decided to stay in school and complete her Master's in Psychology and Counseling since she wanted to work with students in a therapeutic manner. After completing her Master's degree, Leslie accepted an offer to teach in Wichita, Kansas. During this time, she also taught English to inmates in a correctional facility. She later received an offer from Kingfisher High School which led to her gaining a position in Watonga, OK. In Watonga, she performed in the community theater and taught Title 1 English for 9 years until she met Mike, who would become her husband.

Mike and Leslie began to be enthralled with each other and Mike proposed after 6 months, to which Leslie replied, "No, not yet." She wanted to be sure that Mike was the one she wanted to marry and was not just in love with the idea of being married. Mike had to ask Leslie's father for his permission at which time her father asked Mike, "Do you think you can keep her in a manner in which she would like to become accustomed?" Mike and Leslie were married on July 3, 1993.

After leaving Watonga, Leslie found a calling at Bridge Creek High School and was there for more than 20 years. She was awarded District Teacher of the Year twice, worked in staff development, was an officer in the Professional Oklahoma Educators Association and helped represent the interests of teachers. She was also the English department head for many years. She retired in 2015.

Leslie was loved by her many students, some of whom would reach out to share their success stories with her years after graduating from high school. Some enjoyed her classes so much they were inspired to go into teaching and psychology.

Leslie's love for the Lord kept her active in her church. After moving to Yukon, Leslie found her church home at First Baptist Church of Mustang. Her love of music was expressed through her being active in the church choir and the Singing Church Women of Oklahoma. She also enjoyed expressing her creativity through recipes, some of which she would present in various county fairs. Her kitchen is full of ribbons won for her breads and jellies.

Leslie was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her sister, Lynn Goke; brother, Joel and his wife, Gwen; brother, Jeffrey and his wife, Janice; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless cousins.
