Leonor Vasquez Flores
April 16, 1931 - July 1, 2021
Leonor V. Flores, "Mimi, Mema" Mama, - a wife, mother, grandmother, much loved by her familia, passed into Jesus warm embrace on July 1, 2021.
Leonor, nicknamed "Nori" by her parents and siblings, grew up in the Rio Grande valley of Texas, primarily in Falfurrias, Texas. She was the youngest of six children born to Manuel and Maria Vasquez.
On that fateful Christmas holiday in 1956, she met G.H. Flores, a promising young bachelor visiting from Oklahoma, and known by her family. At a community dance, they were introduced, danced a little and began a lengthy conversation over the evening which developed into a proposal of marriage by night's end. G.H. drove back to Oklahoma City, wrote her numerous letters, and in March returned to officially ask for her hand in marriage. He then drove back to OKC, returning in June to commit in marriage a love story of 57 years.
Their marriage was blessed with four children, Melissa, Steve, Julia, and Ilua. They established their home in Oklahoma City where G.H. worked as a civil service employee at Tinker Air Base. Leonor was a loving, devoted, self-less wife and mother, whose unconditional love to her family leaves an enduring legacy. After working as a caregiver outside the home for more than 20 years, upon her husband's debilitating illness in 1994, she lovingly cared for him at his bedside for more than two decades before his death.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Tolson (Curtis), Lenexa, KS; son, Steve Flores (Lisa); Dallas, TX; daughter, Julia Cannedy (JR), Oklahoma City; daughter, Ilua Flores, Bethany, Oklahoma, her devoted caregiver in her last years; six grandchildren, Stephanie Sumpter (Brandon), Oklahoma City; Ian Tolson (Mary), Shawnee, KS; Jacob Cannedy (Carissa), Oklahoma City; Olivia Harreld (Dylan), Grandview, MO; Kristina Tolson, Kansas City, MO and Caroline Cannedy, Oklahoma City; and five precious great grandchildren, Emma, Quinn, Ava, Logan and Jay; and many loving nieces and nephews.
