"The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul." Psalm 23: 1-2
Whether it be because of exciting stories of his many adventures or his passion to serve others, Leo will be remembered as a kind and honorable man. Leo Dean Hyatt was born October 11th, 1923 in Baca County, CO and at the age of 96 and a half, passed away April 13, 2020 following a stroke. He was the middle of three children born to Herman and Zola (Rosenbaum) Hyatt. At the age of 19, he met Colleen (eventual wife) at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS while both worked on the first B-29 to come off the line. During WWII in the U.S. Army Air Forces, he completed 35 missions as a right waist gunner of a B-17 while stationed in Foggia, Italy with the 15th Army Air Forces, 301st Bomb Group, 352nd Squadron. For his service, he attained the rank of Staff Sargent, and was awarded an Air Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and Good Conduct Medal. His long time careers included 25 years at Tinker Air Force Base, repairing B-52s and F-111s and decades enjoying his true passion as a Real Estate Broker.
Leos many adventures included riding a camel around the pyramids in Egypt, visiting the Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri, flying on the famous Memphis Belle during stateside training, surviving the trials of the Great Dust Bowl, and being bit by a Copperhead snake. He was a devout OU football fan and had season tickets for over 50 years. He also followed Southern Nazarene University Mens and Womens basketball, many seasons following them to conference competition, even attending SNU home games during the 2019 season. He loved to travel and took many road trips, visiting the great States of our country- including driving to Alaska. Most importantly, Leo was a man of God. He attended Bethany First Church of the Nazarene Church for over 50 years and would be found at the same seat on the same row every Sunday. The final years of his life, attending his wonderful Sunday School Class and visiting with his many friends, became the highlight of each week.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Zola (Rosenbaum) Hyatt; brother, Stanley Hyatt (who passed away from illness three months before Leos birth); sister, Dorthy (Hyatt) Gilbert; first wife of 20 years, Colleen (Seaton) Hyatt; and wife of 37 years, Carolyn (Wagner) Hyatt.
Leo is survived by his children, Terry Hyatt and wife Catherine (Jerome) Hyatt of Owasso, OK, Jerry Hyatt of Grove, OK, Lynn Hyatt of Santa Barbara, CA and Kanda (Hyatt) Keepers of Yukon, OK. Leo was also blessed with three grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Leo was loved and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Leo would not want us to mourn his passing, but instead celebrate his life and entrance into Heaven.
