Lena Mae OBannon, 74, died November 6, 2008. She was born October 16, 1934 in Marquand, Missouri to Oscar and Mildred (Schell) Green. She was an educator for the Putnam City Schools. She received her B.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and her Masters from Southern Nazarene University. Lenas life in education began in a one room schoolhouse (Barber School) near Marquand-Patton in southeast Missouri. From the ivy walls of Washington University in St. Louis to the completion of thirty-five years of Public School teaching in Mehlville, Missouri and Putnam City Public Schools in Oklahoma City. She cherished a host of friends from Lake Park Elementary School and Mayfield Middle School. Lena loved to read, make afghans and play golf with her favorite partner, Mel. She very much enjoyed her two grandsons Jake and Sam. After raising two sons herself, the two grandsons were like a second life to her. Lena leaves these words as her inspiration and guidance. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace. And, then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest. No occasion justifies hatred, no injustice warrants bitterness. I choose love. Today I will love God and the things God loves. We are Gods children. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Melvin Mel OBannon; sons, David and wife Cheryl, Tom; sister, Billie VanZant and husband Glenn; sister-in-law, Delores Green; and 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Sam OBannon. Family visitation will be Monday, 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams. Services will be Tuesday, November 11, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with entombment in Chapel Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
