Obituary

On October 7, 2010, Lela completed her 93 year earthly journey and began her reunion with God, her husband, Dwight, daughter Kaye, together with a host of family and friends who had gone before. Lela, the firstborn of Millard and Ethyl (Bright) Shaffer, was delivered in their dugout home in Springfield, Colorado, on May 7, 1917. After a move to Kansas, then on to Oklahoma at a young age, she was reared in the Konawa-Bowlegs area. She attended Bethany Peniel College, Southeastern A & M, and Oklahoma A & M. She married Dwight Lyman Taylor in 1938 and began her reign as Mrs. America as he affectionately called her. Dwight and Lela were married 64 years and their life together centered on God, family and the Church. Lela loved God and always believed that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. Lela was always active in the Nazarene Church, where she taught Sunday School and worked in various other capacities. One of Lelas great passions was writing letters of encouragement to family and friends alike. She worked in Oklahoma City at Hillcrest Hospital and later at the medical office of Dr Richard Langerman. Lela enjoyed her work as a medical secretary, and was blessed with a large group of friends from the medical community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Ethyl Shaffer, brothers Elbert and Garland Shaffer, daughter Marion Kaye Fowler and son-in-law Don Fowler. She will be missed by those whose lives she nurtured, but leaves a strong Christian heritage to her family including daughter Trudy and husband Dave Proctor, son Galen and wife Pat, grandchildren Dominique McQuade, Donette Esposito, Todd Fowler, Greg Taylor, Grant Taylor, Geoff Taylor, Chris Loyd , Craig Loyd, David Proctor Jr. and John Proctor. She also leaves 28 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other extended family. Her family looks forward to a reunion with her in heaven. Funeral service will be Monday, October 11, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Chapel in the Round, Bethany First Church of the Nazarene with interment following the service at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City. A time of greeting the family will be held Sunday, October 10, at Mercer Adams Funeral Service from 3-5 p.m.
