Lawrence "Larry"
Barnes Ii
Apr 22, 1942 — Mar 1, 2025
Lawrence (Larry) Donald Barnes II, 82, of Bethany, Oklahoma, was born to Lenorah Polk and Lawrence Donald Barnes I on April 22, 1942. He passed away on March 1,2025.
A graduate of Midwest City High School, Larry continued his education at Oklahoma State University before honorably serving in the National Guard. He embarked on a long and successful career at Western Electric, which later became AT&T and then Lucent Technologies, retiring as a respected section chief.
Larry was married to the love of his life, Nancy, for 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories and raised two children. Larry's passions included building and flying model airplanes, traveling with his wife to exciting destinations, and creating countless happy memories at their lake house on Lake Texoma, where he and Nancy spent weekends boating, fishing, and entertaining friends and family.
Known for his kindness and generosity, Larry was a dependable friend and family member, always willing to lend a helping hand. His practical skills and problem-solving abilities were invaluable to all those around him. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and loved to brag about their accomplishments. A puzzle enthusiast, Larry especially loved solving puzzles, sudoku, and crossword puzzles with his wife. Larry's infectious, silly laugh was a hallmark of his playful spirit - especially if he was winning. One of his favorite songs was "Flying Purple People Eater," and he would happily sing the entire song with a broad smile if you ever mentioned it.
Larry is survived by his wife Nancy; son, Larry Barnes and wife Stacy of Celina, Texas; daughter, Deanna Olds and husband Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tori Hunger, Ty Fanning, Trevor Barnes, Trenton Barnes, Morgan Olds, Allison Olds, and Karlee Olds; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Services to honor Larry's life will be held on March 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be sent to the Salvation Army.
