Obituary

Lawrence J. Houston, 86, died April 12, 2015. He was born December 25, 1928 in Ponca City, OK to Walter and Mayre (Helm) Houston. He was the Production Clerk for the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company. He worked for years as a map draftsman and accounting department invoice and payroll clerk, and served as a lay minister in several churches. His employment as a draftsman allowed him to draw plans for nine churches in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, and to serve as the general contractor and co-contractor for several churches. He was very active in his church both in Texas and Oklahoma. Lawrence received the Christian Servant Leader Award from Central Christian College on September 12, 2008. He enjoyed he built beautiful rocking horses. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis, and his brother, Charles Houston. Survivors include his son, Marvin Houston and wife Linda of Kingfisher, OK; daughters, Joyce Peterson of OKC, Luetta Milbrandt and husband Neil of Carrollton, TX, and Jean Lovett and husband Randy of Temecula, CA; brothers, David Houston of Arkansas and Alan Houston of Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be Friday, 9:00am to noon. Services will be Friday, April 17, 2015 at 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Kansas Cemetery, Piedmont, OK.
