LaVerta Ann Wood, 82, of OKC, OK, passed away February 16, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born March 13, 1930 at home in a small farming community near Eldorado, OK to Carter and Lois Spradlin. She graduated from Eldorado High School in 1947, where she met Joe W. Wood, her sweetheart and loving husband of 64 years. LaVerta was a wonderful wife and homemaker, adoring big sister, caring mother, and loving grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved and cherished everyone she met. She was a member of Mayfair Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as Sunday school teacher to preschoolers for almost 40 years, church treasurer, and member on the kitchen committee. LaVerta is survived by her husband, Joe; daughters, Cindy and husband Ray Wiseman, Lisa Johnson, Terri and husband Joe C. Wood; grandchildren, Jackie and Briton Garman, Court Burnett, Joanna Schindler, Dusty and Akemi Rhoades, Cressy Anquoe, Joe Jr. and Shena Wood; siblings, Jerry and wife Judy Spradlin, Phyllis and husband Jim Prince, and Jean Worley; numerous great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; as well as a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Terry and daughter, Connie Jo. Viewing will be Thursday, 10am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 N Asbury, Bethany. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22 at 1:30pm at Mayfair Baptist Church, 2715 NW 50th. Interment is in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery directly following the service. The family requests any donations be made to an Alzheimer's charity of your choice.
