Lavalla Leppke Penner, was born March 27, 1928, died on September 18, 2011.She was preceded in death by her parents Peter W. Leppke and Martha (Rempel) Leppke, one brother, Herbert Leppke, two sisters, Delores Kroker Brown, and Jo Ann Patrick, and daughter Mary Ellen Penner Fox. She is survived by her son Harold Glenn Penner. Lavalla is also survived by numerous In-Laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lavalla went to Corn Valley Grade School. She was a member of 4- H. She graduated from Corn OK High School in 1945. She attended Oklahoma A& M College, in Stillwater, until she got married.
On Nov. 8, 1945, she got married to her high school sweetheart Harold George Penner. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Rhode Island and then in Oklahoma: Cordell, El Reno, Clinton, and Oklahoma City. Later they lived in Ada, Okmulgee, and Tulsa and finally Oklahoma City again. She was a full time home maker and mother. She was a precinct Election Judge in Tulsa County, including the 1968 Presidential election paper ballot long night count.
She was a member of several churches as she moved around in Oklahoma including: First Baptist in, Clinton, Ada, Okmulgee Kelham Ave. in Oklahoma City, and Eastwood, in Tulsa.
Lavalla and Harold were members of the Village Baptist Church since 1976.
She was a member of 2 book review clubs in Oklahoma City for many years. She was also a member of the retired OSESC employee group, ROSES, with Harold.
She and Harold were a long time members of The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) chapter in Oklahoma City. Lavalla helped host the first national convention of AHSGR to be held in Oklahoma City, during 1986.
