Kimberly Deann
Metcalf
Aug 29, 1985 — Jan 23, 2024
Kimberly DeAnn Metcalf was born August 29, 1985 in Oklahoma City at Deaconess Hospital to Sidney and Sonya Emmert. She was the oldest sister to Lori Bollinger. In 2003 Kim began dating John Metcalf. She graduated Putnam City North High school in 2004 and attended Southern Nazarene University. In 2007, she married John, who has loved and supported her through all the highs and lows of life. In 2008, Kim graduated college with a Bachelors in Business. She is survived by her husband, John Metcalf; children Trip and Poppy Metcalf; mother, Sonya Emmert-Brown; and sister Lori Bollinger. She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney (Sid) Emmert.
If anything could be said of Kim, it was that she made you feel like you belonged. A light that shone in the darkness who pulled you out and folded you into the community. From class parties, family reunions, haircuts, PTA meetings or even in line at the grocery store, when Kim spoke to you, you felt at home.
In high school she was voted friendliest by her senior class, was a class officer both her junior and senior year and was even selected by her principal and school staff to be the female student council representative to Washington DC.
Her 3 lifelong dreams were to be a hair stylist, business owner and mother. And while her life was far too short for those still here, it wasn't too short for her to accomplish all three of her dreams, even gaining her cosmetology license before graduating high school!
In 2012 she opened The Hair Boutique in Bethany, Oklahoma which quickly became a center of warmth and welcome, reflecting the very essence of Kim. From the lighting to the stylists to the gum-ball machine, Kim ensured that every person who walked into the salon felt like they belonged there. And with her bounding sense of community, The Hair Boutique was known to be the best neighbor on the strip.
Always the social butterfly, Kim styled countless weddings, hosted innumerable showers and planned hundreds of nights out and get togethers. And yet, she still had the ability to zero in on the individuals. To see the ones less seen. And to listen intently when one most needed it. Always setting herself aside, so others were taken care of.
Then, in 2017, after years of celebrating others, Kim became a mother. The joys of her life, twins Trip and Poppy, blessed Kim and John beyond words. Fitting that the socialite would have twice the babies, Kim would continue to extend hospitality, generosity, and an open home as her house changed from costume parties and game nights to play dates and clothing swaps. If ever your kids were at Kim's house, there was never a doubt they felt right at home.
In August 2023, Kim was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. While Kim was the welcome wagon, she was also the one you wanted on your side of a fight. She fought harder and fiercer and longer than most could bear. And in the final moments of her life, her endless hospitality came back to her as she was surrounded continuously by a vast and deep community of loved ones from near and far.
On Tuesday, January 23, 2024 Kim was welcomed into Heaven the way she always welcomed others. She met Jesus, saw her dad again and was permanently healed. She will be missed by many, but her legacy of warmth, openness and divine hospitality will live on in all who knew her.
