Kenneth Howard Vrooman was born Dec. 6th, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Paul and Elois Vrooman. He went to be with the Lord on March 13th, 2013 after a battle with cancer. He was reared and educated in Oklahoma City, and attended Northwest Classen high school. While there his passion for running began as he excelled on both the Cross Country and Track teams, where he helped lead the Knights to a State Track Championship in 1967. His mile relay team broke the state record twice that year. It's a record that stood for many years afterwards. He was very fortunate to compete at the collegiate level as well, going on to run track at OSU with many of the same friends he developed while in high school. His passion for running and sports continued throughout his life, as he could still be spotted at local track meets enjoying various races. Ken spent most of his working life in manufacturing management, at Central Sales from 1976 to 1993, then at Excell Products from 1993 to 2000. At both companies he was part of a core team that helped the business grow into industry leaders. While doing this he naturally built many personal and professional friendships. After retirement, he remained interested in business, and enjoyed researching and trading stocks. Ken received the most joy out of life from his family. From being a son and brother, to being a husband, father, and grandfather, he loved his family deeply. He had no greater joy than his grandchildren. He loved being a part of any activity they were in, and enjoyed watching them grow and mature in their own unique ways. He will miss them immensely, and was very grateful for each and every one of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Elois Vrooman, and son Thomas Barton. He is survived by his children, David Vrooman (Ronee), Katy Shapard (Nathan), Doug Vrooman, Angela Duhe (John), John Barton (Vielza); his companion Carole Vrooman; his brothers, Tom Vrooman (Sandy), Dick Vrooman (Marilyn), Greg Vrooman (Karla); his wonderful grandchildren, Paige, Jack, John Thomas, Evan, Gibson, Toree, Cooper, London, Sumner, Sutton; numerous nephews and nieces; and many dear friends. Ken was loved by so many, and has made his family incredibly proud. One could often hear him say, "You can only take life one day at a time." It's a creed that he lived, showing what daily surrender to God really means. And while we all eventually lose our physical battles, he showed us how to win our spiritual ones. Ken was a friend of Bill W. Ken's children give special thanks to those providing abundant care and support: Carole Vrooman, Kris Skinner, Rob and Carol Stalcup, Paul Potter, Donna Lee, Dr. Brian Geister, Dr. Melisa Boersma. The family will receive guests at Mercer-Adams (3925 N Asbury Ave, Bethany, OK, 73008) on Friday, March 22nd, from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Crossings Community Church Chapel (14600 N Portland Ave, OKC, OK, 73134) on Saturday, March 23rd, at 2 pm. Please wear something colorful in celebration of Ken's life. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to: Cross and Crown Mission (1008 N. McKinley, OKC, OK 73106).
