Kenneth James Strobel
June 17, 1946 February 06, 2022
Kenneth James "Ken" Strobel, 75, of Bethany, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday morning, February 06, 2022, after complications caused by chemotherapy treatments. He was born June 17, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to Stanley Joseph Strobel and Roseabelle Katherine Strobel. He had 2 older sisters, June Knight and Nancy Shear as well as 2 younger brothers, David and Joseph Steven.
Ken joined the United States Army at the age of 17. He made quite a name for himself during his years of service. He became a Marksman with a rifle and earned The Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, The National Defense Service Medal and The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal before being honorably discharged.
Ken was a hard worker all his life. He loved working with his hands and could do just about anything. He worked for over 25 years at Alco Glass company making windows and doors. Upon leaving there he and his wife Debbie started their own business, Debs Dog Houses. They had a few standard dog houses that they made all the time, but Ken would custom build anything a customer requested and that that was no problem with his skill set. This led to customers requesting special projects for their homes which kept him busy all the time. He and Debbie made the decision to close the doghouse business. Ken later took a job very close to home at Bethany High School which is where he worked until he retired about 10 years ago. But retirement didnt slow him down. He loved yard work, and continued projects making a concrete sidewalk at home as well as some other additions to the home and outbuildings. He loved fishing, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, and reading. His favorite author was Stewart Woods. Ken continued with his love of woodworking by making birdhouses, whirligigs, and all kinds of other crafty projects. That was a team hobby he enjoyed with the love of his life, for Debbie did all the painting of those projects. He also had a love of motorcycles. In fact, when he and Debbie ran off to get married, they did so on his motorcycle and when they returned, they were both burned to a crisp. This began the journey of their beautiful family. Later came two handsome sons, Donald Drake and Shaun David. And, along the line a few dogs he loved. Last, but by far not least, Kens beloved dog, Roxy. Kens love of motorcycles expanded and he added a side car, then later a trike. This allowed him to take Debbie, the boys, and later, Roxy, around everywhere, instilling that same love in them.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of over 40 years, Debbie, and his son, Don. He is survived by his son, Shaun.
A private memorial will be held later for the family.
