Kenneth Dale Jones, 85, passed away August 3, 2021. He was born July 12, 1936, in Oklahoma City to Graham and Otha Mae (Bradshaw) Jones. He lived and attended school in Oklahoma City and graduated from Central High School in 1955.
Growing up, he worked as a caddie and played golf along with his brother Glenn, at Lincoln Park Golf Course. He and his brother Glenn, along with Dale and Junior Watson, were city golf champions. All this prepared Kenneth for a golf career, where he ended up playing in the 1958 U.S. Open at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In 1959, all Kenneths plans changed when he got the call into the ministry. He walked away from a professional golf career to pursue the ministry. He then graduated with a BA in Religion from Bethany Nazarene College (SNU) and set off for a career as a Pastor and a Missionary. Ordained in the Church of the Nazarene, Kenneth pastored churches in Prague, Coalgate and Bennett, Oklahoma, before going to the mission field. He went to Mexico in 1969, where he began and would end his career as a Missionary. His greatest blessing was planting churches in Peru and Paraguay, and Long Island, NY.
Kenneth was an active member of the Oklahoma Territory Tellers and Central High School Alumni Association, class of 1955.
He loved to tell stories, and his greatest joy was entertaining people and making them laugh. Kenneth loved helping people, whether they were a stranger or friend. His compassion for the poor and needy marked a lifetime of service to others. With great sadness as well as joy, we say goodbye to a husband, father and friend.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Doris, Glenn, Jannell, Jimmy and Burl. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara; children, Kenneth (Lisa) Jones; Robert Jones, and Kelli (Steve) Blackwell; and grandchildren, Cullen and Blair Jones, Alexander, Nathan, Kenley, and Christina Blackwell.
Viewing will be Sunday, 11am-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Monday, August 9 in the Mercer-Adams Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at www.ncm.org.
