Kenneth (Ken) Harris, 80, passed away August 29, 2020. Born in Vivian, LA to Burney (Posey) and David P. Harris, Sr., Ken graduated from North Caddo High School in 1957 and Louisiana Tech University in 1967. Employment opportunities with Mobil Oil, UNIVAC, and Honeywell-Bull led to moves to Los Angeles, Little Rock, OKC, St. Louis and Houston, but OKC became home. After retiring, he spent time as a security guard for the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum before serving several years as security at the Baptist General Convention building.
Ken was a big fan of Cardinal baseball, OU football, and Thunder basketball; for many years, he enjoyed PC North football and filmed its varsity games. Betty and he traveled often, including multiple trips to Hawaii and Crested Butte and numerous visits to the various states and colleges of their grandchildren. Once an avid tennis player, he also loved playing golf, especially with his buddies from Lake Hefner Golf, but his favorite pastime was time spent with family and friends. An active member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at NW Baptist Church, he made lifelong friends and greatly influenced multiple generations through his strong faith and kind heart.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers (D.P., Jr., and Brian Posey), and 2 grandchildren (David and Ethan). Ken is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Betty (Jones) Harris; three children and spouses: Kathy and Chris Wilson (OKC), Rick and Janet Harris (OKC), Rob and Gina Harris (Littleton, CO); five grandchildren: Megan and Sam Wilson, Taylor and Blake Harris, and RJ Harris; sister-in-law Lois Harris; niece Libby Cole; and nephews Randy, Mike and Doug Loyd.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Tues., Sept. 1st, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home. A celebration of Kens life will be held graveside at Rose Hill Burial Parks Patio Mausoleum at 11:00 am on Wed., Sept. 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org). Special thanks to the wonderful hospice nurses and staff from Complete OK and his nightly caregivers.
