Kay Deniece
Harrison
Mar 29, 1943 — Jul 2, 2025
Kay Harrison, a devoted wife and precious mother, Nana, and great-Nana, passed away on July 2, 2025.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Harrison, and his wife, Mary; her daughter, Jennifer Bush, and her husband, Rick; her grandchildren, Caden Williams, Kennedy DiCarlo and her husband, Nick, and Stephanie Harrison and her husband, Jose; her great-grandchildren, Rowan and Rocky Reyes; and her niece, Wendy McWhorter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Harrison; her mother, Hattie Mildred Payne; her father, Woodrow Shaw; her stepmother, Rose Lee Shaw; and her brother, John McWhorter, who passed just a few weeks before her.
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Kay met the love of her life, Chuck Harrison, at Britton Baptist Church as a teenager. During their 58 years of marriage, they built a life rooted in their love for Jesus, family, Sonic, and sports. Kay's greatest calling was being a mom, a role she embraced with immense joy and gratitude. She and Chuck adopted two children, and Kay poured her heart into raising their family while supporting Chuck as he built his Sonic business. Their journey to parenthood was a beautiful reminder that families are formed by love and that God provides many paths to create them.
Her love for her family only deepened when she became a grandmother and later, a great-grandmother. She spent much of the last 30 years in Phoenix to be closer to her grandchildren, becoming their biggest cheerleader and an unwavering presence in their lives. From bottle feedings to soccer games, football games, and high school dances, she was there for every moment, both big and small.
Kay's faith was the foundation of her life. She never missed an opportunity to encourage others to pray and trust God with their challenges. She carried that faith into her relationships, where she radiated God's love and made everyone feel valued with her down-to-earth, genuine nature.
Kay also had a legendary competitive spirit. An avid sports fan, Kay's Saturdays in the fall were dedicated to OU football, and she cheered just as passionately for the Phoenix Suns and OKC Thunder. She loved the thrill of victory, whether it was rooting for her teams, hitting strikes at the bowling alley, or winning hands in three-card poker in Las Vegas.
We will forever cherish her unconditional and unforgettable love, her endless generosity, and the way she taught us to ground ourselves in faith and proudly cheer for the ones we love. And of course, we'll never forget her famous chicken and dumplings and her love for garden-fresh tomatoes, dachshunds, and chatting with the girls at the salon during her weekly blowouts.
She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered with every OU touchdown, every winning hand of cards, and every basket scored by the Suns. We find comfort and peace knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus, reunited with her lifelong love, Chuck, and younger brother, John.
In 2024, Kay participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Harrison Foundation Little Tot Spot at the Hospice of the Valley Dementia Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The special space was created to foster daily intergenerational interaction between children and participants at the Dementia Campus. The Harrison family is honored to be forever a part of an organization that loves and cares for both the older and younger generations. Our hope is that the "Little Tot Spot" continues to be a fun and healing place that brings joy to all who visit.
