Kathryn Louise Wertz was born June 27, 1918 in Northumberland County, PA to parents John and Mary Moore. She was the younger of two daughters. She graduated from Sunbury High School in 1936 and attended Bloomsburg State Teachers College to receive her Teachers Certificate. She taught in a rural school house for 3 years. She married W. Kenneth Wertz on June 6, 1942 in Oklahoma City while he was in the military at Will Rogers Field. They lived in Oklahoma City until March 1943, and then moved on to different military locations in Michigan, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Kansas before returning to Oklahoma City in 1946 when Kenneth was discharged. They joined Putnam City United Methodist Church in November 1946, where she remained an active member for 68 years. She was enthusiastically involved in numerous groups - United Methodist Women's group , Campus Ministry, Co-chairman of her Fidelis Sunday School class, Rotary Ann's, Christian Women's Club, Housemaker Extension Club, and worked on the Election board for 30 years. She had an amazing card ministry that she was faithfully devoted to by sending out more than 200 cards per year to cheer those who were sick or grieving, in celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, and baby births or just a note to say she was thinking of you. Her yearly Christmas list still consisted of about 150 recipients that she still maintained correspondence with from her old friends and family in Pennsylvania to her local friends. She was a devoted wife to Kenneth for 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her eldest son Dean in 2011. She is survived by son Jon and his wife Linda, daughter Jane Conway and her husband Ron and children Troy and Chad, and grandson Adam Wertz and his wife Danielle and daughter Simone, and granddaughter Paige Bainum and her husband Brian. Visitation will be Friday October 3, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, Bethany, OK. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 4, at Putnam City United Methodist Church. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Putnam City United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army of OK.
