Kathryn Louise Davis of Yukon, Oklahoma, was born on January 7, 1952, to Raymond ODonell Davis and Ina Belle Woodfin Davis and entered the gates of Heaven on June 18, 2020.
Kathy Davis was raised in Bethany, Oklahoma, and graduated from Putnam City High School in 1970. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma, earning both a BS in Education in 1974 and a Masters in Education in 1988. A life-long educator, Kathy was employed at Yukon Public Schools as a classroom teacher for thirty-two years and as the YPS Director of Curriculum and Instruction & Professional Development Coordinator for seven years. She was named Yukon Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 1997 and Oklahoma Teacher of the Year State Finalist in 1998. She retired in 2017 after thirty-nine years of service. Miss Kathy Davis will be remembered as a master teacher, a supportive colleague, an insightful motivator, a natural problem-solver, a tech-savvy educator, and a skilled administrator. She always went the extra mile whether she was teaching, mentoring, or being a friend. The lives she impacted are innumerable, and her legacy will live on through the positive impact she made on all who knew her.
Kathy Davis was also a committed member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional organization of key women educators, its state affiliate Oklahoma State Organization, and its local affiliate Beta Beta Chapter. During her thirty-three years of membership, Kathy served in numerous capacities at all levels of the Society, including as Beta Betas president, newsletter editor, and webmaster; as OSOs state president and webmaster; and as Internationals United States Forum Chair and Southwest Representative. In 2007, Kathy was honored with the Oklahoma State Organization Achievement Award and was invited to attend the prestigious International Golden Gift Leadership Seminar in 2008. As a proud DKG member, Kathy utilized her gifts of leadership, communication, organization, and creativity to advance and to enhance the Society. Her passion for and dedication to Delta Kappa Gamma were truly remarkable. She will be greatly missed by DKG Sisters from all over the world.
Kathy Davis faced health obstacles with fierce determination, confident optimism, and staunch perseverance. When Kathy was diagnosed with cancer as a young woman, she underwent extensive treatments, becoming a thirty-five-year cancer survivor. Several years ago, Kathy learned she would soon need a liver transplant to survive. Kathy embraced this new challenge with the same resolve and positivity as she had in her earlier battle with cancer. In April of 2019, Kathy received a transplant of both a liver and kidney, which she considered a "gift of life." Kathy was an outspoken advocate for organ donation and utilized every opportunity to encourage others to sign up as organ donors.
Kathy Davis enthusiasm, fun-loving spirit, and zest for living carried over into all aspects of her life. Kathy found great delight in the companionship of her four miniature Schnauzers: Carter, Sadie, Jasper, and Cody. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gathering with her sisters families, and shopping online. In her last months, Kathy especially relished the time she spent surrounded by beautiful flowers in her own backyard retreat or engaged in long distance Bible study with her cousin Sandy Seely.
Kathy Davis was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorothy Ballinger-Beshers. Kathy is survived by sister, Josie Shipley; niece, Lynne Arthur; four nephews: Mike Ballinger, David Ballinger, Guy Shipley, and Glenn Ballinger; four great nieces: Micah Lyon, Lauren Ballinger, Cara Ballinger, and Elise Ballinger; seven great nephews: Justin Shipley, Adam Ballinger, Ryan Shipley, Dean Ballinger, Luke Ballinger, Ben Ballinger, and Brett Ballinger; two great-great nieces: Audrey Shipley and Merrick Lyon; Josiah and Briella Friedrick, who called her Grandma Kathy; a host of Davis and Woodfin cousins; and numerous friends.
