Obituary

Karen Lee (Rhea) Litteral passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 and is now celebrating health and peace with her Heavenly Father. Karen was born in Berea, Ohio to Elsby Mae Rhea and Robert Cecil Rhea on February 9, 1952. After living in Ohio and Texas, the Rhea family made their home in Bethany, OK in 1965 where she continued to live the rest of her life surrounded by her loving family. Karen graduated from Putnam City West in 1970. She earned a bachelors in education and a masters in library science from the University of Oklahoma. Karen was a teacher and then a librarian who retired first from the Putnam City School District and then from Metro Library System - Warr Acres in 2020. She made a difference in the lives of so many children during her career by inspiring them to always read a new story. Students would recognize her anytime she was out shopping or running about town. Her family felt like it was like being around a celebrity. Her interests included participating in choir, playing the piano, attending theater shows, square dancing, and photography. She volunteered regularly at the Civic Center. She enjoyed traveling with the Retired Teachers Travel Club and going to Branson, Missouri to listen to Southern Gospel music. She was an active member of Metropolitan Bible Church in Oklahoma City. She loved organizing family get-togethers and taking many family photographs. She became a grandmother in 2009 and was devoted to creating memories and having fun with her grandchildren. She loved taking them to the library and letting them check out dozens of books at a time. She enjoyed taking them to local festivals, museums, and the Oklahoma City Zoo. Her family experienced her as one of the kindest and most unselfish individuals they ever met. She was quick to listen and support, patient to anger and embodied a Godly character. She loved well. She frequently engaged and invested in friendships with those she performed music for and met at Baptist Village, a retirement center in Oklahoma City where her parents lived prior to their passing. She was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Craig Maucere; and her brother-in-law, Jeff Maucere. Karen is survived by her only son, Brian Litteral, his wife Rubi, and three grandchildren, Amarantha, Georgiana, and Isaiah; her sister, Gail Maucere and nephew, Robert Maucere; her sister, Barby Spates, spouse Jack Spates, and her sons Adam and Kyle Anderson; and her dear friend of over thirty years, Brent Morrill. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 19 at 10:00 AM at Metropolitan Bible Church located at 7201 W. Britton Rd. in Oklahoma City, OK.
