Kami Lyn (Bussert) Gilstrap was born October 9, 1993 in Oklahoma City, OK She was the first grandchild born on both sides of her family and she was the joy to all of their lives. She went to be with her Savior January 14, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ.
Kami was the kind of person whose passions were not easily hidden. You could not be around her for five minutes without laughing- either with her or at her. She exuded life and a passion for the people who were in her life. Kami married Blake Gilstrap on September 5, 2015. They built a life together in Arizona where Kamis passion for the outdoors was always on full display. Whether with her husband, their dogs, or in her Jeep Kami loved nothing more than hiking and enjoying the beauty of Gods creation.
Kami was passionate about her family. Her husband, her mom and dad, her sisters, and her extended family all knew they were precious to her. Whether at a family holiday, on Facetime, or on a family trip to Colorado or the lake house, wherever they were thats where she wanted to be. And she could be counted on to keep everyone laughing with her sarcastic wit, a clumsy fall, or an occasional blonde moment.
Kami was at heart an Oklahoma girl. She loved her state. She was obsessed with playing soccer with her girls and carried that obsession all the way to the collegiate level after a very successful high school career. She loved watching the Oklahoma Sooners play football and the OKC Thunder play basketball. She loved an Oklahoma sunset and all the beauty that comes with it.
Most of all Kami loved her Savior Jesus. She trusted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl and though at times in her life she walked away from Him for a season she always came back to what she knew- that He was her Savior and He wasnt going anywhere. Because of that, her family and friends have hope that they will one day see her again.
Kami is survived by her husband Blake Gilstrap, her parents Tod and Kori Bussert, her sisters Kelsi and Kylie Bussert, aunts and uncles Ann and Marc Hall, Kari and Mike Kerr, Jason and Suzy Bussert, Deke and Amy Koonce, grandparents Larry and Cynthia Koonce and Susie Bussert, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Charles Bussert, and her great grandparents.
