Obituary

Justin Burnett Chrane was born August 20, 1927 in Moberly, MO, the son of Delbert and Opal Chrane. He moved to Bethany, OK in 1939 when he was in the 6th grade. He played basketball at Bethany HS, then left after his junior year to join the Coast Guard. At 17, he had to have parental permission to join the service, and he entered with his high school buddies Jack Riggs and Bill Gandy. All three served on the same Coast Guard cutter. He trained in New England, and then was based in Greenland during the final months of WWII, starting in May of 1945. He returned home in May of 1946 and married Norma Pierce on February 14, 1947 in Kansas City at the home of his parents. Upon their return to Bethany in the fall of 1947, Justin worked as an appliance deliverer, then worked for DeCoursey Dairy as a delivery man, then went to Texaco in 1954 until his retirement at age 55 in 1982. Justin was known for sporty cars which he kept well-maintained and immaculately clean. As a young man, he had some training in auto mechanics, did not pursue that as a career, but always enjoyed tinkering with his cars. His driveway and garage were one of the focal points for Bethany guys to hang out and learn from him about auto maintenance. He had a gift for making people laugh and loved to lift the spirits of those around him. Justin was inducted into the Bethany Public Schools Hall of Honor in 2012 for his long-time support of the school system. He and Norma were very well-known figures in the community, with more friends than anyone could count. He was considered a father-figure by many Bethany young people who needed his attention and the stability of a predictable and steady family. This role was a natural outgrowth of his compassionate heart and desire to be of service and assistance to as many as possible. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Opal Chrane; an infant sister, Angella Chrane; brother, Robert Chrane; and granddaughter, Amanda Moore. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Norma Chrane; daughters, Andria Smith, Donna Moore and her husband Phil; grandchildren, Amy Sanders, Mindy Turner and her husband Travis, Lindsay Moore and her husband Ken Marshall; great-grandchildren, Addie Sanders, Ellie Sanders, Tate Turner, Trindon Turner, and Edie Marshall Moore; and his sister, Margaret Tucker. His life blessed the Bethany community for 83 years and he will be sorely missed by all. Memorial service will be Saturday, May 14, 3:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel.
