Obituary

Junior LaVerne Monroe, 86, of Yukon passed to Heaven on Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was born on wintery January 26, 1925 in Perkins, OK to John Vernon and Mabel (Williams) Monroe. At age 5, his father passed away. His Mom later married Eugene Martin giving he and his sisters Lura and Nila, 8 step brothers and sisters. LaVerne served as a cook in the US Army at Fort Ord, CA and Fort Lewis, WA. Growing up in rural Stillwater area, he met the Redus family. He married his friend and sweetheart, Lillie Floriene Redus, Oct. 7, 1944. LaVerne and Lillie were married 64 years until her death in 2008. They lived in Stillwater until 1960 when they moved to Oklahoma City/Bethany area then to Yukon in 1977. LaVerne worked many years in the retail grocery business where he set an example to coworkers to work hard, be honest and trustworthy. LaVerne is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Chris) , Edmond, OK; two special niece/daughters, Sandra (Phil), Kensal, ND and Florene (Tony), Yukon, OK; grandchildren, Andy, Terry, Lori, Christi, Heather, Angie, Gavin and Carly; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Cassie, Rachel and Tobias. He is also survived by 1 brother-in-law, 7 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 8am-9pm Thursday. Pastor Dan Meek will lead services on Friday at 10am, March 4 at Canadian Hills Church of the Nazarene, 11744 W. Reno, Yukon with burial to follow at 2pm at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Stillwater.
