Joyce Carol Smith went to her heavenly home on June 17, 2017 after a short illness at OU Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be on Thursday, June 29 at 10:00am at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Green officiating. Interment will be at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, June 28 and on June 29 from 9am until the time of the funeral service. Memorial contributions can be made to the family. Joyce was born on February 13, 1956, the daughter of Rev. Owen James and Dorothy M. Smith, Sr. She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College with a triple major of Music, Psychology and Business. She also went to Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech. Joyce loved music and art. She played the clarinet in high school and took voice and piano lessons in college. Joyce loved to draw and do crafts. She loved to make key chains to give to her family and friends. She also loved children and was "Auntie" to her niece and nephews. She loved babysitting, going to baseball games and spending time with them while they were growing up. She also loved spending time with her great-nephew, Alex. Joyce was a Tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians in Harbor Springs, MI. She loved learning Ojibwe from her dad and hearing the history of her ancestors. She also loved journaling and filled journals with Bible verses that were meaningful to her. Joyce is survived by her mother, Dorothy Smith of Bethany, her brother, Dwight Smith and spouse Susanna Russo from San Francisco, sister-in-law, Jeri Smith of Bethany, sister, Julie Pego and her husband Paul of Mount Pleasant, MI, nephew, Michael Smith from Warr Acres, niece, Michelle Smith Jaramillo and her husband Domingo from Bethany, nephew, John Silversmith from Mt. Pleasant, MI, nephew, David Silversmith from Carrborro, NC, and her great-nephew, Alex, as well as many cousins and friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Owen J. Smith, Sr. and her brother, Owen J. Smith, Jr. Joyce fought the good fight of faith and is now completely at peace in heaven.
