Obituary

God literally brought "Joy" to the Logue family on April 30, 2012 when Joyanna Elisabeth Logue was born, and she continued bringing joy each and every day until she passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. What a moment that must have been when she passed from this life into the very presence of God! Joyanna was 12 years old and had late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, a rare genetic disease that also took the life of her brother, Philip, in 2018. Beginning in 2017, Joyanna was the first patient in the United States to begin receiving a specialized treatment for NCL, following FDA approval. The treatment stabilized her neurologically for several years and she was able to continue spreading joy to those around her—especially through her smiles.

During the past three years Joyanna lived as an inpatient at the Bethany Children's Health Center in Bethany, OK. She was loved and cared for by countless doctors, nurses, teachers, therapists, and other members of her care team during this time. She was never able to say it verbally, but she truly loved the individuals who cared for her as her medical journey progressed and if she could have said it, she would have said, "Sanks," (that's how she said thanks when she could still talk).

Joyanna loved Nemo and Dory, Little Bear, Curious George, and anything that was overstated, dramatic, slapstick, or a little bit crazy! She had a fun-loving spirit and was quite tenacious and adventurous; the unofficial motto for her life was "Just Keep Swimming." She loved singing songs, especially Sunday School action songs. When she was still able to talk, she often asked for "one more" at the end of a song. She used the ploy of singing just one more song to avoid bedtime on more than one occasion.

Joyanna was loved and prayed for by many members of Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and by the staff and students at Heartland Baptist Bible College, where her dad works. Both the church family and college family walked with the Logues through the entirety of Joyanna's journey.

Joyanna is survived by her parents, Ben and Becca Logue; her brother, Ethan Logue; her grandparents, Joe and Denise Decker and Nancy Logue; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Philip Logue; and her grandfather, William Logue.

The viewing will take place on Thursday, December 12 from 12:00-8:00pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK. Funeral services will be Friday, December 13, 10:00am at Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. For those who are not able to attend, the service will be livestreamed through the church website. The interment will take place at Spring Creek Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City following the funeral service.
