Joseph Edward Carr, of Oklahoma City, passed away from this life too soon on October 5, 2011. Joey, as he was affectionately called by his family, was born October 1, 1979, in La Mesa, California to Edward and Nancy (Phipps) Carr. Joe was a 1998 graduate of West Hills High School in California. His family moved to Oklahoma from Santee, California in 1999. He was big brother to his only sibling, sister, Justine Carr of Oklahoma City. On March 18, 2006, Joe married his best friend and true, eternal love, Kathy Calhoun. Together they worked building their lives filled with joy, service projects, family, cooking, and loving their Scottish Terrier, Lacie, as their sweet baby girl. With a genuine and true servants heart, Joe spent his short adult life actively involved in numerous nonprofit organizations, philanthropic projects, and social issues and service groups, including his lifelong involvement in Boy Scouts of America, where he was a proud member of Order of Arrow. Joe was previously employed by the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation and was currently employed with TEEM, The Education and Employment Ministry, an interfaith non-profit organization, serving Oklahoma City with education, training and job placement assistance for those in need. Joe worked tirelessly as a volunteer at The Hugs Project, a nonprofit organization that was the first to make and distribute cool ties (affectionately nicknamed "hugs" since they go around the neck) as well as care packages and other homemade items to our service men and women serving overseas. One of Joes crowning achievements was coordinating, directing and raising $40,000 in this year's Blazing Sun Run for Freedom, raising money and awareness for The Hugs Project. Joe was a natural fundraiser for these organizations because it was impossible to tell Joe no. If you met him you knew him and if you knew him you loved him. Joe also worked as the CFO for International Scouting, made and sold salsa and was the Owner and CEO of Carr Development Group, Quality Gifts and Di-lightful Gourmet. Joe loved his Oklahoma Sooners and St. Louis Rams. Even after spending countless hours working and volunteering, Joe could be found caretaking and attending little league games and other activities of his friends children, whom he loved as if they were his own.
