Obituary

Jonathan Sparks, 74, beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on November 25, 2020. He entered this world on November 22, 1946 in Huntington, WV, to Rev. Asa Hill Sparks and Pansy Violet Cooper Sparks. On June 11, 1970 he married, Paula Hicks in Clarksville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Asa Howard Sparks. He is survived by his wife, Paula, 2 daughters: Stacy Jones and husband Paul of Wichita, KS; Melodie Luckett and husband David of Yukon, OK., 4 Grandchildren: Spencer Jones, Casey Jones, Matthew Luckett, and Kaitlyn Luckett; 1 sister, Martha Trau and husband Phil of Collierville, TN. Jonathan was in ministry and a professor for 45 years, in Christian education and library science. He worked at Friends University, Southern Nazarene University, Oklahoma Baptist University, Mid-America Christian University, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He enjoyed reading and all things computers. He received his doctorate from NOVA Southwestern University in Information Technology. In the last few years of his life, he wrote a book, The Power of Positive Strengths Filled Living, about one of his passions in life, developing a Strengths Finder based program to train people in finding their spiritual gifts and direct others to God. Last year, he enjoyed making a personal worship website: www.musicalparables.com. His prayer was for this website to encourage Christians and guide others to the Heavenly Father who loves them "no matter what". Public Viewing will be held Monday, 30th of November 2020 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Family Visitation will be from 6:00PM to 8:00PMServices for Jonathan Sparks will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Mercer-Adams Chapel with Rev Lewis McClain officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 03:30 PM in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.After retirement, Jonathans favorite charity was the Reaching Our City (ROC), where he volunteered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to ROC, Home | Reaching Our City, Inc. .
