Obituary

Johnnie Ray Hughes died on November 18, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 9, 1957 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Anna Bell and Jim Hughes. Johnnie joined the military right out of high school in 1975. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a huge supporter of our military and very proud of his sons for their service. Johnnie retired from the FAA as a Supply Technician after 28 years. He loved his family more than life itself. He was his grandkids biggest fan and loved going to (or watching online) their sporting events. He could always be heard on the sidelines yelling and cheering them on. As Josiah remembers, "Go, go Joe DiMaggio." He loved hunting and fishing, riding his Harley, and of course his Sooners. Johnnie never met a stranger and was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He would give his last dime and the shirt off his back to anyone he thought needed it. He was truly selfless and so kind. Johnnie was preceded in death by his father, Jim Hughes; mother, Anna Bell Fuller; stepfather, Wayne Fuller; sister, Annette Van Nort; and daughter-in-law, Cassy Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Mary Hughes of Oklahoma City; children, April and James Marsh of Castle Rock, CO, Jeremy Hughes of Bethany, OK, Jessica and Cody Lind of Newcastle, OK, and Justin Hughes of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Mikel (Michelle), Ariel, Kaylee (Ian), Emily, Cheyenne, Jordan, Josiah, Jaxon, Avrie and Sawyer; 2 great-grandchildren, Aubree and Brody; sister, Kitty and brother-in-law Phill Smith; brother, Jimmy and sister-in-law Madonna Hughes and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends which he viewed all as family.
