Obituary

John Lee Vincent Wilbanks passed from this world the morning of August 4th, 2022 in Bethany, Oklahoma at the age of 53. John was born on March 17th, 1969 St. Patrick's Day in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Carroll Lee Wilbanks and Regina Sue Wilbanks. John grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma until 1978 when his parents, himself, and his siblings moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico so that his parents could attend Bible College there. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1982 and lived in Ponca City while Johns Dad Carroll took a pastorship at a local Native American church. The family moved back to the Oklahoma City Metro in 1984 to Bethany, Oklahoma where John attended Bethany High School. John grew up always having a strong work ethic and in 1985 John got a job at Kennards grocery store and worked there throughout high school. John graduated from Bethany in 1987 and continued working for Kennards grocery store for a short time while also working side jobs. John would later take a job at Hamel Medical, servicing medical equipment around the state. In February 1991 John and his high school sweetheart Tammy welcomed a baby boy, Blake, into the world. Shortly after his son was born, John went to work for Irrigation Station, a sprinkler parts house, and eventually went on to work for Groom's Irrigation soon after that. In the early 2000s John started his own irrigation company called Green Country Irrigation, where he installed sprinkler systems, built beautiful landscapes, waterscapes, and hardscapes in Oklahoma City and beyond. During his time as a business owner, John joined the Professional Businessmens Association (PBA) where he served as a member for 10+ years and went on to serve as President of the club. He continued his work in the irrigation business for the rest of his life. In February of 2022, John became a grandfather to his 1st grandson, Murphy. He spent his last few months on this Earth as the proudest grandfather and never missed a chance to let anyone who would listen know that. John had a passion for anything outdoors, including spending time at the lake with friends and family, fishing, hunting, and biking. In his last few months, you could find him cruising around the lake in his newly restored 1987 Chevrolet Blazer that he had since the mid 1990s. Music was also something John greatly enjoyed, music of all kinds. He loved sharing his favorite music with his family and friends and being able to connect with them through it. John is survived by his son, Blake Wilbanks; his wife, Jessica and their son Murphy; his parents, Carroll Wilbanks, and Sue Wilbanks; his siblings: brother, Buddy Hopkins, sister, Barbara Salazar and her husband Raul, sister, Tina Gilbert and her husband Ray, sister, Carolyn Murray and her husband Glenn, brother, Jedidiah Wilbanks and his wife Maci; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. John was an amazing father, brother, son, grandfather, and friend to so many. His generosity, fun spirit, kind nature, and love reached far and wide all his days on this Earth and he will be forever missed.
