Obituary

John Warren Bundy, resident of Bethany, Oklahoma, died Friday afternoon, August 28, 2015 in Oklahoma City. He was born August 15, 1928 in Muncie, Indiana to Gertrude Eleanor (Fisher) and Clinton Oscar Bundy. John graduated from Olivet Nazarene College with a degree in Business Administration in 1950. While there, he served as Student Body President, Orpheus Choir President, Aurora Annual Business Manager, Olivet Trojans Baseball Team and sang and traveled with the ONC Men's Quartet. Other extra curricular activities were centered around a brown-eyed Texan named Margretta Sanders. They were married in Port Arthur, Texas in March of 1953. Upon graduation from Olivet, he served in the Army during the Korean War as a 2nd Lieutenant where his service included training fellow officers in Officer Training School. After completing his military service, they returned to Port Arthur, Texas where he purchased and further developed an egg and poultry distribution center in South East Texas, "Bundy Egg and Poultry." He subsequently sold the business and became a Certified Life Underwriter, beginning his lifelong career with Bundy & Associates as an independent life insurance agent. A highlight in his career came when he served Bob Hope a bottle of cold Coca-Cola out of his office refrigerator. Emerging from retirement, he became the office manager for his son Tom's medical practice in Lake Jackson, Texas. After Tom and his wife, Holly moved to Idaho, John and Margretta moved to Bethany, Oklahoma in1994 to enjoy the rest of their retirement and their two grandchildren, Maggie and McCall. John's relationship with Jesus Christ was the center of his life. He loved the Church of the Nazarene and served her well. He and Margretta were the lay music ministers at Port Arthur First Church of the Nazarene for their entire time in Texas. John attended and served on the Church Board of Port Arthur First Church of the Nazarene for forty years. He was a member of the Houston District Advisory Board for several decades. He served on the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene for four years in the mid-sixties, and served on the Southern Nazarene University Board of Trustees for over thirty years. John was an avid collector of HO model trains and pen and pencil sets. Upon graduation from High School, he was invited to try out for the Philadelphia Phillies, but declined because they played so many games on Sunday. He loved attending the Houston Astros baseball games with his sons, Tom and McCall, and tracking incoming hurricanes in the middle of the night with his daughter, Margaret Ann, in front of the bay window at home in Port Arthur Texas. John had a lifelong pursuit of studying and teaching the prophetic books of the Bible. His last words to his family were "Jesus is coming very soon." He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Beatrice Thomas, and his son, Thomas Clinton Bundy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margretta (Sanders) Bundy; son, J. McCall Bundy and wife Debra Riggs Bundy; daughter, Margaret Ann (Bundy) Adams and husband Tim Adams; daughter-in-law, Holly Bundy Hart; granddaughters, Maggie (Bundy) Hart Welliver and husband Seth, and McCall (Adams) Calloway and husband Carson; and three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Asher and Eden Welliver.
