John Stanton was born April 10, 1933 in Sparta, Georgia to Willie Henry Stanton and Hattie Mae Stanton. He was one of fifteen children. John was educated in the Georgia, Ohio and Michigan public schools. He was known as "Mr. Fix-it" because he could repair anything. John, a decorated war veteran, was wounded in battle during the Korean War where he served honorably from 1955-1957. John was united in holy matrimony to Linda Barnwell Stanton on October 16th, 1972. To this union, Nikki and Ian were born. A previous marriage produced 4 offspring. John was a skilled metal finisher prior to retiring from General Motors assembly plant. John was a member of the Greater Apostolic Faith Church under the pastorate of Bishop Art. L. Ladd, Sr. On Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 2:10 AM, John was called home for eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Linda; daughter, Nicole Stanton; and son, Ian Lamarr Stanton. Also, daughters, Leila Stanton Cargill, Cassie Stanton, Sheila Stanton, all of Detroit, Michigan; son, Jerome Stanton, Philadelphia, PA; sisters-in-law, Denise Stringer and Leslie Harper, OKC; brother-in-law, Eric Agee, OKC; sisters, Mattie Boyer, Detroit, Michigan, Barbara Stanton, New York, NY, Francena Barnes, Philadelphia, PA, Margaret Stanton, Cleveland, OH, Cassie Hundley, Pemberton, NJ; brother, Theodore (Helen) Stanton, Philadelphia, PA; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
