John I. Rust, 82, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2009 in Oklahoma City. He was born December 17, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Henry and Jennie (Boggs) Rust. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen Rust; his brothers Edwin, Donald and James Rust; and twin sisters who died in infancy. Survivors include son Steve Rust, his wife Sheryl and their two children of Wichita, Kansas; daughter Gloria and her husband George Counselman of Edmond, Oklahoma; along with two nieces and three nephews. Mr. Rust served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. He received an accounting degree from Rockhurst College in Kansas City and worked for General Motors and later for Phillips Petroleum Company in Kansas City, transferring to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1964. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League for several years in both Oklahoma City and Bartlesville. Entombment will be in Bartlesville.
