John Oscar Wells went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 21st, 2014 after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born to Oscar and Myrtle Wells on March 13th, 1957 in Oklahoma City. He was the much beloved baby of the family, doted upon by his parents and his three older siblings, sisters, Shannon Wells Lucid and Ann Louise Wells, and brother, Joseph Lee Wells. He celebrated his "lucky" 13th birthday on Friday the 13th, 1970. Later, he became a favorite uncle to his young nieces and nephews, letting them shift his orange Camaro as he drove and introducing them to the essential things in life like Star Trek and KISS. John loved visits to the Wells' family cabin in Arkansas, especially time spent in his favorite family game, "How many people can we stuff in the bathroom" John was the loving father of Joshua Hanson Wells. They loved visiting hobby shops and used book stores and attending concerts together. They collected action figures and space memorabilia. John and Joshua also assisted John's father in the family ministry of sending Bibles to people around the world. In recent years, John was pursuing his interest in theology by taking online courses. He was a teacher and served on the Bethany School Board. John loved teaching 6th grade social studies. His students were a joy to him, and he was always especially proud of his students who participated in the history fair. John appreciated the cards his students sent to him during his illness and lined the cards up on his shelf so he could enjoy looking at them daily. John's sense of humor and positive outlook on life never diminished during his illness. He never complained and did his best to help others deal with their own grief as his cancer progressed. His lifelong friend, Dr. Donald Horton, was an invaluable companion on this last part of his life's journey, and both John and John's family express their most sincere thanks for all he did for John. John is survived by his son, Joshua Wells, his siblings, Shannon Lucid, Ann Wells, and Joe Wells, his sister-in-law, Terri Coulter, and his brother-in-law, Mike Lucid. He is also survived by his five nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. John was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
