John Wesley Leonard, age 82 years, entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning, June 14, 2009. He passed peacefully with his beloved wife and family at his bedside. John was born August 21, 1926 in Luther, Oklahoma. John served in the US Navy during WWII, and worked at Ted Ferris Co., Transcon and Pyramid Mfg. John and his wife Arlene became the proud owners of Maytag laundries in south OKC. Known as the Laundry Man for over 40 years, he was proud to be a Toast Master, Master Mason, member of Myrtle Lodge #145, the Scottish Rite, the India Shrine Center, a Camel Herder and an Ambassador Emeritus.
John was preceded in death by his parents, three children, one son-in-law, and two grandchildren. John is survived by his dear wife of 66 years, Arlene; four loving children: Bobby Leonard and wife Sharon, Mary Early, Myra Leonard, Charlotte Sims and husband John; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother Nolan; sister Clevanel Brewer; and large extended family, friends and devoted employees. A special thank you to all of the home health care and hospital staff. John Wesley Leonard was a unique individual, a thinking man, and one who loved people.
Family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday at Mercer-Adams, Bethany, OK. Services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 17, 2009, Mercer-Adams Chapel, Carl Polsley officiating, followed by interment in Luther Cemetery, Luther, Oklahoma.
