Obituary

John Anthony Griffis went to be with his Savior on Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Okla. City. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 7, 1961, to Jay and Marilyn Monfort Griffis. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Saundra Vernier Griffis and children, Matthew, 18, Hannah, 17, Isaac, 13, and Rachel, 11; his parents, Jay and Marilyn Griffis, Bethany, OK; sister, Dawn Williams and husband Mark, Bethany, OK; in-laws, Jack and Janette Vernier, Peoria, IL; sister-in-law, Crystal Love and husband Howard, Peoria, IL; brother-in-law, Nick Vernier and wife Kay, Mounds, OK; sister-in-law, Debbie Schaffner, Peoria, IL; brother-in-law, Mitch Vernier and wife Shelley, Colorado Springs, CO; 5 nieces, Allison Williams, Jessica Williams, Stacie Vernier, Alyssa Vernier and Jessica Vernier; 7 nephews, Jonathan Williams, Jason Williams, Travis Vernier, Troy Vernier, Drew Schaffner, Derek Schaffner and Jeffrey Love. John was also a great- uncle to Emma Grace Williams. John graduated from Bethany High School in 1979. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Southern Nazarene University in 1984. John earned a law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1987. John was employed by Bethany Public Schools for 18 years where he taught middle school math and coached girls basketball, softball, girls golf and boys golf and football. John was also employed by Southern Nazarene University as an adjunct professor. He was also a very active member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. John was a loving husband, father, and son. He was also an outstanding and influential teacher and coach, as well as, a wonderful friend. He is greatly loved by his family and the community. We will miss him. Visitation will be 12:00 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November, 22 , 2009, at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK. Funeral services will be Monday, November 23, 2009 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Bethany, OK, at 2:00 p.m. with interment in Bethany Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Bethany Schools Foundation- Golf Program.
