Obituary

John Charles Fechner, 87, of Bethany, OK, died on January 5, 2011, exchanging the perishable for the imperishable and joining that great cloud of witnesses ever celebrating victory in the presence of our Savior. He was born December 2, 1923, in Higgins, TX, to parents, Robert and Veda Fechner. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, participating in the invasions of Peleliu and Okinawa Islands. He received the Purple Heart Medal and the Gold Star in lieu of the award of a second Purple Heart Medal. He married Eunice Oneta Cloud, on August 25, 1947; they were married 63 years. He graduated from Bethany-Peniel College in 1951, and served as a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene for 36 years, serving in Bethany, OK; Jet, OK; Newport, AR; Kingsville, TX; Perry, OK; and Piedmont, OK. He held membership in the Kiwanis Club and the Lions Club, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. He is celebrated by his family and friends as a man of God, a faithful husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandpa a hero of his family, the Christian faith, and his country. He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Bethany, OK; three sons: John Fechner, Jr., and wife, Pat, of Cushing, OK, Rodney Fechner, of Houston, TX, and Kenneth Fechner, of Bethany, OK; two daughters, Gaylene Hill, of Broomfield, CO, and Susan Acre, and husband, Darrik, of Piedmont, OK; nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four siblings: Dean Fechner of Wichita, KS, Charlotte Ehrlich, and husband, Ralph, of Shattuck, OK, Wanda Melzer, and husband, Norman, of Wichita, KS, Elizabeth Misemer of Canyon Lake, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carolyn Jo; and four siblings: Eugene, Delores, Buddy, and Veda Mae. Viewing will be Mercer-Adams on Saturday, January 8, 9 am-9 pm, and Sunday, January 9, noon- 9 pm, with the family receiving visitors from 4-6 pm on Sunday. Funeral services will be Monday, January 10, 2011, 2:00 pm, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, in OKC, OK. Memorial contributions can be made the Fechner Family Seminary Scholarship, SNU, 6729 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008.
