Obituary

Funeral services for Joel Keith Hamilton, 73, of Oklahoma City, OK, will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008 with Reverend Lewis McClain officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8801 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK, under the direction of Mercer Adams Funeral Service, Bethany, OK. Mr. Hamilton was born June 13, 1940 in Springfield, TN and passed away April 2, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was a resident of Oklahoma City, OK since his enrollment at Bethany Nazarene College in 1958. Joel was a devoted Christian and was a past member of Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene, Oklahoma City, OK and served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Church Board Member, and Sanctuary Choir Member. He was a current member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, Bethany, OK where he served as a Church Board Member and was actively involved in the Great Expectations Sunday School Class. He was active in the Bethany Kiwanis Club and served in leadership responsibilities. He was a life-time student of the Bible and treasured the depth and wonders of the Scriptures. Joel received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Nazarene University in 1963. He began his career with Diffee Ford Lincoln on January 20, 1960 as a part-time lot porter and was continually promoted until he became a General Manager. After the death of Mr. John Diffee in 1973, Joel became a co-owner of the company and was employed by Diffee Ford Lincoln for fifty-four years. Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents Rev. James and Ruth Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Lorna Hamilton; daughters Deanna Snook and husband, Brock of Fountain Valley, CA; Susan Hobbs and husband, Paul of Victorville, CA; Laurie Farris and husband, Chad of Edmond, OK; brother, Jim Hamilton and wife, Carol of Conroe, TX; brother-in-law, Gavin Heare and wife, Corrine of Romney, WV. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Mercer Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, OK 73008. The Hamilton family would like to extend a special thank you to the employees of Diffee Ford Lincoln, Dr. Aly E. Aly, Dr. Hanna Saadah, the staff at Integris Baptist Medical Center, the staff at Parcway Recovery Center, and the staff at Select Specialty Hospital for their professional guidance, care, and concern.
