Joe David Laird, born November 15, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK to H.T. and Marjorie Laird, died October 11, 2019. He grew up in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. He loved going camping with his grandparents to Colorado, and he enjoyed going rock hunting with his Grandpa Alcorn. As a child he attended Westgate Nazarene Church in Warr Acres, Oklahoma. He attended Putnam City schools and then went on to college at the University of Oklahoma, majoring in business.
When Joe was in college, he also managed the Bethany grocery store, which is now Mercer- Adams. He also worked for his mother in her income tax office, where he began his love of accounting. After seeing the determination he had for his career, his mother convinced him to go to work for the Internal Revenue Service.
Joes career with the IRS took him to Dallas, Texas where he lived and worked for many years; then was transferred to Maryland and worked out the Washington D.C. office. He retired from the IRS after 27 years.
Joe loved traveling, buying and selling antiques and attending flea market shows. But more than anything he loved his family fiercely.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Snider of Shawnee, OK; niece, Stephanie and husband Rick of Guthrie, OK; nephew, Christopher and wife Sarah of Shawnee, OK, and his great-nephews, Triston and Kasey Snider of Shawnee, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.T. and Marjorie Laird. He was 72 years old.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 19, 1:00pm in Bethany Cemetery.
