Joanne S. Noakes was born July 17, 1931 in Pocasset, OK, and passed away December 31, 2011 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bessie Steelman, and brother Burle. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill Noakes; 2 daughters, Sally Noakes, and Leslie Wegener and husband Rodney Wegener; son Jim Noakes and wife LaDean; 5 grandsons, one granddaughter-in-law; and one brother, Bobby Steelman and wife Patricia. Joanne loved God, and contributed abundantly her time and resources to His work. She enjoyed volunteering at Deaconess Hospital. She was a long time member of Putnam City Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, and helped with other programs as needed. She enjoyed the world around her. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, the Compass book club, was a season ticket holder to the Jewel Box Theater, traveled the US and abroad with the PCRTC, and played bunko and bridge with her friends. She was known as first friend to newcomers and could light up a room by just being there. She provided nutritious and appetizing meals for her family. She kept them well-dressed and groomed, and paid close attention to her own appearance. She provided a home atmosphere that welcomed family and friends. When finances were close, she sold Avon, worked in a retail department store, taught school on a substitute basis, and worked as a secretary for GTE. Her family wants to acknowledge the compassionate care and exceptional services provided for her and her family during her stay at Mercy Hospital, and all the kindness, visits, cards, food and prayers so freely given by her friends during that time. Memorials for her can be made to the PCBC building fund. A viewing will be held at Mercer Adams Funeral Service on January 5, from 9 AM-9 PM, with the family present from 6-8 PM. Services will be held Friday, January 6, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Putnam City Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Pocasset, OK.
