Joan Elizabeth Kinyon, 92, died November 3, 2022, in Oklahoma City. She was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Jeannette and Henry Manthey. Her father died in 1933. Joans mother married Glen Baugh in 1938.
Growing up, Joan was in the Girl Scouts and Rainbow Girls. In the mid-1940s, the family moved to Rockford, Illinois, where Glen became president of a new bank. Later, the family moved to Chicago, where Glen worked for another bank.
Joan entered college at the National College of Education where she studied to be a teacher. She taught first grade in Riverside, Illinois. Her teaching career continued until 1955.
She met Robert, her future husband on a blind date in 1949. Robert proposed in July, 1949 and they married December 27, 1952, in Chicago. In 1959, the family moved to Brazil, where Robert worked for Wilson Foods, a meat-packing company. After 10 years, the family moved back to the U.S., where they lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then Oak Forest, Illinois.
In 1973, Robert was transferred to Oklahoma City. There, the family joined Grace United Methodist Church, where Joan taught Sunday School and participated in the churchs Mobile Meals program. She also called bingo at a nursing home and helped in the missing childrens room at the Oklahoma State Fair.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine (husband David); and sons, Mark (wife Debbie) and Glenn (wife Krista). Grandchildren include Allen, Beth and Kristen and Kristens son Aiden.
Viewing at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service will be Tuesday from 9am-8pm with family present from 6-8pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 9 in the Mercer-Adams Chapel.
