Jo Ann (Trantham) Shaw, aged 85 years, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on October 5, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born July 18, 1938 to Basil Trantham and Dorothy (Grimes) Trantham in Littlefield, Texas. Jo Ann was raised by her father and loving stepmother, Mildred (Duesenberg) Trantham in North Kansas City, Missouri. She married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Shaw Jr., on June 1, 1958 in Shawnee, Oklahoma where they both attended Oklahoma Baptist University. In her early years of marriage, Jo Ann was a proud homemaker and P.T.A. mom. She later became self-employed when she and Herb opened their own styrofoam business. In 1987 she joined Herb in lay ministry as the Kitchen Supervisor at Camp Hudgens, a Southern Baptist church camp in McAlester, Oklahoma. But the titles she held most dear to her heart were Mom, Grandma, Brown Grandma (hair color), Gagum, B.A.G., Grandma Jodi and Aunt Jodi. Family, friends and neighbors were all greatly blessed to have known her by one or more of these names and she will be greatly missed. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Herbert Shaw Jr; brother, Darryl Trantham; daughter, Elizabeth Swanson; and grandsons, Jeffrey Alexander Jr and Corey Shaw Swanson. She is survived by her children, Greg Shaw (Shauna), Kristen Alexander (Jeffrey Sr), Kevin Shaw (Denise), and Rebecca Lagaly (Scott); grandchildren, Joe Dahl, Nycole Witte, Jane Payne (Michael), Michelle Marlow (Jonathan), Katie Shaw (Travis), Gregory Shaw (Lynn); and great-grandchildren, Zachary Ferguson, Jonah Payne, Mackenzie Ferguson, Selene Payne, Eleanor Payne; sister, Marilyn Hill; and many nieces and nephews. Viewing is Tuesday from 9am-8pm with family present from 6-8pm. Funeral services are Wednesday, October 11, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment to follow in Bethany Cemetery.
