Obituary

Jimmy Lee Griffin, Sr, 69, left this earth December 14, 2023 at Mercy Hospital. He was the partner of Karen Barton, his honey, of Piedmont, OK.

Born on July 9, 1954 in Oklahoma City, he was the son of Henry Marvin and Anna Mae Griffin. He graduated from Putnam City West in 1972. Jim was a Master Carpenter; he first began his career in partnership with his dad. Through the years Jim worked at Winslow's and traveled the world creating installations for GAP, Old Navy and Tommy Hilfiger; these adventures took him to England, Germany, France, Switzerland, and St. Maarten. Following this he took his skills to Dalmarc Signs and then to Close Custom Cabinets, where he built houses in CA. Eventually Jim retired from Kimray where he built the cabinet department from the ground up. Wherever he worked, he mentored and helped his coworkers in every area. His teaching ability and good humor drew people to him.

Jim's greatest times were those spent with Karen and his children and grandchildren. Whether they were riding the 4-wheeler with his little buddy Linden, working in the garage, watching old home movies, riding on the back of his motorcycle, shooting guns, camping and riding with the guys at Little Sahara, or eating and telling stories, Jim loved being with his family. He was a storyteller of epic proportions, always telling embarrassing family stories and keeping his loved ones' memories alive. Whenever he told a story, he would crack himself up so much that he couldn't get it all out. He'd get everyone so tickled that tears accompanied the laughter. Jim cherished his last years with the love of his life, Karen. They listened to "Landslide" every Sunday morning as they ate breakfast. She made his last years his best years.

He also loved rock and roll, going to concerts, The Three Stooges, watching his OU Sooners play football, eating barbecue, and taking pictures– constantly. His motorcycle trips with Jeff were among his favorite times. And, his dogs, Jaunsin and Moses were always his "little babies". His laugh was contagious, and he loved his white "dad" tennis shoes', his white holey t-shirts inside out, and his straw hat. Through so many losses, he was the "rock". His wisdom and calmness were a balm to his family.

He is survived by Karen Barton (his honey), children, Jimmy Lee Griffin, Jr. (Rebekah Maccaro), Jennifer Griffin (Ben) and Jami Smith (Michael); grandchildren, Linden, Maddison, Morgan, Penny Layne, Rylan, Liam, Madison Rose, Blake, and Connor; brother, Gerre Griffin (Gail); various nephews, nieces, and in-laws, and his beloved dog, Moses.

The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Williams Church of the Nazarene (6900 N.W. 50th Bethany, OK). A private burial will be held at a later time.
