Jimmie William
Troutman
Dec 11, 1941 — May 3, 2025
Jimmie (Jim) William Troutman passed away on May 3, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born in Carthage, Mississippi to Robert and Evelyn Troutman on December 11, 1941. Jim was married to Patsy Troutman for 52 years.
Jim grew up in Mississippi, spending much of his childhood fishing the rivers and creeks near his grandparents' country home. Often what he caught was what they had for dinner. He graduated from Florence High School in 1959 and enlisted in the US Air Force. Jim was a talented young man. In his early Air Force days, he was involved in theatre, playing several roles including Chick Clark in the performance of "Wonderful Town." An out-of-state professor who saw the production lauded Jim's performance as "…more spontaneous and refreshing than the original at Broadway…."
Jim was also a smart young man. As a staff sergeant at NCO Leadership School, he received the Commandant's Award, the top academic honor among 57 students. Jim later earned a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in 1977 and a Master of Arts from Webster University in 1986. He served as an adjunct college Professor of Science, Mathematics, and Management at various colleges from 1977-1990.
In 1969, during a break in military service, Jim became a police officer in Ft Worth, TX. A few years later, he re-enlisted in the Air Force, specializing in military meteorology which he employed for the rest of his career at many stateside and overseas bases and in the Vietnam conflict. He retired in 1991 as a Senior Master Sergeant.
In 1981, while still in the Air Force, Jim's ambition and passion began to shift to the spiritual. In that year, he was licensed to the ministry by Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo, NM. He was interim pastor at churches in Germany in the late 1980s. In 1992, he received a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary in Ft Worth, TX.
After seminary, Jim pastored multiple Baptist Churches across the country including Strawn, TX, Tularosa, NM, Montpelier, VT, Rota, Spain, and Guthrie OK. Jim was not satisfied to pastor from a distance. He made it a point to get actively engaged in the community in which he pastored. Simply put, Jim loved people. He was kind, generous, and humble, the things Christ's servants are made of. In Strawn TX, as he pastored, he simultaneously held civic posts as city marshal and judge and also served as an EMT. When he was pastoring in the Oklahoma City area, he served as a security guard at the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and Allegiance Credit Union.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his great-grandson, Gage Krupovage. He is survived by his daughter, Bridgette Benton; adopted daughters, Sparrow Krupovage and Suzanne Low (Dave); adopted son, David Troutman (Lisa); brother, Alex Taylor (Ellen); sister, Kimberly Weaver; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as G-pa.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Charter Oak Baptist Church located at 11300 S. Douglas Blvd. in Guthrie, OK.
