McDONALD, Jewel A., (known to family and friends as J.A., Mac, or Uncle Jewel) 95, passed away January 6, 2015, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born January 12, 1919 in Paris, TX, to Edmon Albert and Jessie Alma Smith McDonald. Most of his young life he lived near Erick, OK where he graduated from high school. He attended Oklahoma A & M (now OSU), Stillwater, OK; Hills Business College, OKC; University of Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin, U.S. Navy Radio School and served as a Radioman First Class in World War II. He retired as National Claims Manager from Lee Way Motor Freight in OKC after 47 years. During that time, he served as President and Chairman Southwest Motor Carriers Claim Conference, Dallas, TX; Claims Arbitrator, National Freight Claims Council, Washington D.C.; National Arbitrator, Transportation Arbitration Board. J.A. was a member of the Northwest Christian Church in OKC for over 60 years. He enjoyed more than anything being a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Interests included gardening, grilling, traveling and competitive sports. At the age of 60, he began snow skiing for the first time and continued to enjoyed favorite locations in Colorado and Oregon with his children and grandchildren. After retirement, he and Eula Mae were members and served as President of The Round-Up Time Square Dancing Club of OKC; he played on The Golden Boys Senior Softball team, sponsored by Bellevue Health & Rehabilitation Center OKC; participated in the Senior Olympics and Senior Games in such events as 50 & 10 meter runs, running broad jump, javelin & discus throw and won 9 gold medals and 1 silver at age 79. His records for the 50 & 100 meter runs still remain in his name. He continued to drive and deliver Mobile Meals with a team of volunteers for his church through the age of 94. J.A. was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred James McDonald; wife, Eula Mae Smith McDonald; and son, Dr. Lynn Barton McDonald. He is survived by his sister, W. Inez Hilliard and husband Paul; daughter, Cheryl Denise Phipps and husband Don, and grandson, Johnathan Brooks Phipps; daughter-in-law, Janet McClure McDonald, and twin grandchildren, Brook Lynn McDonald and Nash Ja McDonald. Services will be Saturday, January 17, 1:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.
