Jerry A. Southern was born January 8, 1945 in Stuart, Oklahoma and died September 17, 2008 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in McAlester, Oklahoma. He served in the Army from December of 1963 until June of 1970. Mr. Southern worked at Seagate for 33 years, then taught at Canadian Valley Vo-Tech. He also worked at the Oklahoma Blood Institute. He was an avid blood donor. He volunteered at church as head usher. He liked golf, OU football and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving father, husband and best friend to his wife. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Southern; sister Ayleene Leibfried; daughters Marsha Southern and Sheri McGuire; son Russell Southern; step-children Shawn Swingle and Aleisha Rogers; and grandchildren Victoria Clark, Tayten Swingle, Ella Swingle and Trever Rogers. Services will be held Friday, September 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Metroplex Fellowship Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Oklahome Blood Institute.
