Obituary

Jerry Leroy Smith went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2017. Jerry was born on August 21, 1940 in Monroe, OK to Troy and Fannie Smith. When Jerry was two years old, the family moved to Oklahoma City, where he graduated from Northeast High School in 1958. After serving in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Jerry and Judy Nance, his high school sweetheart, were married for almost 53 years. He spent the majority of his career in banking as a consumer loan officer. During his life, Jerry enjoyed softball, photography, crewing hot air balloons, riding his bike, volunteering for organizations like the Railway Museum and the Metropolitan Library System, going with his grandkids to the zoo, and working out at Pacer. He had a sharp wit and was known for his puns. Most important to him was his faith in Christ, which he expressed by serving as a deacon, teaching Sunday School, and leading worship at his mothers nursing home. This faith was also central to his roles as a son, husband, father and "Pops." He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Wilcox. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Wendy Reed and husband, Doug; son, Eric and wife, Julie; grandchildren: Marisa, Hudson, Danica and Devin; and a niece and four nephews, as well as extended family. The family wishes to thank the amazing, caring staff at Storey Oaks for enveloping Jerry and our family with love and comfort, and the compassionate nurses of Emerald Hospice for helping Jerry through the end of his journey.
