Obituary

Jerry Luinstra, 86, passed away on January 17th in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born in Bailey, Texas on October 20, 1936, to John Everett and Addie Mae Hutchings. She married the love of her life, Ben Luinstra, on December 8th, 1956, in Bethany, Oklahoma. Jerry enjoyed watching old western movies, Hallmark movies, collecting antiques, reading, piddling in the yard, camping, and caring for her pets. Her true passion was her grandkids and great grandkids. She poured her heart and soul into their lives. MeeMaw or Meems as they affectionately called her, taught each of them basketball, baseball, football, enjoyed making backyard mud holes, making secret potions, taking walks to the SNU campus, and making sure their tummies were happy! She truly enjoyed being in the front yard, giving hugs and kind words to neighborhood kids and families. Another pastime was going to Walmart to "shop." She did very little shopping but a ton of socializing, focusing mainly on the babies. She never met a stranger or missed an opportunity to tell people about her Jesus. Her lifelong witness made a positive impact on many, many people. If we only knew. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Izzy Luinstra; her parents; her brother, Joe Don Hutchings; and her brothers-in law, Johnny Baker, and Kenneth Adams. She is survived by her husband, Ben Luinstra; sons, Monte Luinstra, his wife Gayle, Randy Luinstra, his wife Paula; grandchildren, Travis and Melissa Luinstra, Tyler and Veronika Luinstra, Trevor Luinstra, Loyde Luinstra, Lance, and Jordan Luinstra; great-grandsons, Grayson Luinstra and Lance Jr (LJ). She is also survived by her siblings, Tennie Baker, Jackie Adams, Max Hutchings and his wife Pat; and special friend, Aunt Kay Spindle; and a very special group of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. We ask donations to be made to the ALS Association, MDA or Nazarene Compassion Ministries. Celebration of life will be at Bethany First Nazarene, Chapel in the Round, at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 28th, 2023. To view the video of the service, click here. .
