Chief Petty Officer Jeffry Alan Broomfield (Jeff) was born June 23, 1979 in Oklahoma City, OK, and passed away May 23, 2014 in Yokosuka, Japan. Jeff was born in Oklahoma City to Ron Broomfield and Deborah Kehres Broomfield Cooper, and was the beloved older brother to Jeremy Broomfield. Jeff is survived by his wife, Sachiko, children, Anna (10) and Alex (7), of Yokosuka, Japan; father, Ron Broomfield and wife Carolyn of Oklahoma City; mother, Deborah Cooper; brother, Jeremy Broomfield of Oklahoma City; and a host of relatives, both in the United States and in Japan. Jeff graduated from Westmoore High School in 1997, and the next month, just four days shy of his 18th birthday, entered the U.S. Navy, fulfilling his lifelong boyhood dreams. Jeff entered boot camp, and father Ron told him not to let them know that his birthday was coming up. The drill instructor did find out, though, and Jeff did pushups to the longest-ever version of the birthday song! Boot camp in Great Plains IL was followed by electronics training school, and fire control school, followed by specialized weapons training in Dahlgren, VA. After his specialized training, Jeff was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, on the destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur. While stationed there, he met and married Sachiko Kajigaya in August of 2002. Sachiko's parents, Seigi and Kazue Kajigaya, loved Jeff from the start, and he had a wonderful relationship with them. In 2003, Jeff and Sachiko came back to the states and were stationed in Dahlgren, VA, and daughter Anna was born at Andrews Air Force Base. They were later sent back to Japan, where Jeff was stationed on the destroyer USS Stethem, and in June 2007, son Alex was born in Yokosuka. In August, 2010, Jeff was promoted to Chief Petty Officer, one of the proudest moments of his life. The next year, he was transferred to the destroyer USS John S. McCain, where he continued to serve as Fire Controlman until his death. As a young man, Jeff loved hunting, reading and video games. Both the reading and video game hobbies followed him into adulthood, and helped him in his Navy career. Jeff loved spending time with his wife and kids. Ron and Carolyn and Jeremy were able to visit Jeff and Sachiko and the kids in Japan on several visits, and Sachiko's parents have been able to come to the US to visit in the Broomfield home. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vince and Mary Broomfield, and Paul and Barbara Kehres. Visitation will be Thursday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 7-8:30pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be 10am, Friday, June 13, 2014 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, 6789 NW 39th Expy, Bethany, OK 73008. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, where Jeff will be interred in the family plot.
