Longtime Oklahoma City resident, Jean Marie Pope, died from pneumonia and complications December 28, 2009. Jean was born November 12, 1923 in Eau Claire, WI. She was raised with her sisters Vera, Phyllis and Janie, and brother Frank by loving parents, George and Sadie Rezarch in Park Falls, WI. She graduated from nursing school in Milwaukee, WI, joined the Army Nurse Corp. in 1944 and earned the rank of Lieutenant. She met Captain K.L. Hibdon in Detroit, MI in the service. They were married in Florence, Italy in 1946. After the war, they moved to the Oklahoma City area. They had two children, Cynthia and George. Jean and K.L. were married 24 years. Jean remarried in 1974 to William (Bill) Pope. Bill died suddenly in 1990. She worked as an R.N. until the age of 72 years old. After retirement, Dewey (the Schnauzer) was her faithful friend and companion. Jean was involved in family, church activities, P.E.O., travel, an avid reader, and a great bridge player. The family wants to thank the OKC VA Medical Center and the Norman Veteran Center physicians, medical staff, and staff for the excellent care, kindness and treatment they provided her. Also, we want to thank Glenn and Jessica Morgan and family, Midlothian, VA, for their devotion to Jean. Surviving immediate family members are: daughter Cynthia Matson, Rapid City, SD; son George Hibdon and wife Linda, OKC; grandson Marshall Matson, Belle Fourche, SD; grandson Trevar Peterson and wife Sally, Warr Acres; great-grandson Henry Peterson and granddaughter Bianca Krakofsky, Ft. Drum, NY. In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimers Association (alz.org). A memorial service is set for 10:00am, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at All Souls Episcopal Church in the Chapel of St. Mary, 6400 N. Pennsylvania, OKC, OK. Jean was loved and she was one-of-a-kind.
